November 2023 Top Ten

1.

I read the graphic novel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz and loved it. The storytelling was incredible. I wish more comics were like this one.

2.

I watched this video of Acid vs Lava because why wouldn’t you?

3.

I read With All Your Heart: Orienting Your Mind, Desires, and Will toward Christ by A. Craig Troxel and really enjoyed this one. Here are a few quotes I highlighted:

“Christ is our gentle guide who enables us to see just enough of our sin to awaken us but not too much to sink us into despair.”

“But if the Christian life is nothing but bare duty, then something has gone seriously wrong with our heart.”

“The goal is not to have weaker desires but stronger desires, namely, to have righteous desires surpass evil desires.”

4.

I also reread On Getting Out of Bed by Alan Noble. It’s so good to just pop in and read every year, just to remind me of some core truths about mental health.

5.

My sister sent me this insane cover of “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas. You’re welcome.

6.

I picked up Hand That Rocks the Cradle: 400 Classic Books for Children by Nathaniel Bluedorn at a thrift store for $0.99. It’s a list of books for kids. We just started reading aloud A Bear Named Paddington with my five year old son because of this book.

7.

I watched this movie called The Big Year about birding. It has an insane cast, but it’s not very good.

8.

We read Discipline is Destiny by Ryan Holiday for book club. I didn’t love it as much as some of his other books (like Ego is the Enemy), but there’s some good stuff in there.

9.

I read the graphic novel version of Fahrenheit 451. The pacing is crazy fast, so I wouldn’t recommend it to people who haven’t read the novel, but it was cool to see some of the visuals. And one of the pages has one of the best sequences of panels I’ve ever seen.

10.

I watched this video for dogs about mallards for quite awhile.
