May 2022 Top Ten

I read Your Are Not Your Own by Alan Noble. It’s a great in-depth diagnosis of the issues most Americans face in 2022. He also gives a hopeful prognosis which, spoiler, is the title of the book. You can read my full review here. Here’s one of my highlights: “Is looking at this tree a good use of my time when I haven’t emailed my manager yet?”
2.
This last single from John Van Deusen’s new album is challenging for me. His full album came out yesterday.
3.
I love giving new high school graduates the book Fahrenheit 451 because it’s so random but also because its the best book ever. I had a nice stack of them on my bed and decided to read it again, for the fourth or fifth time. And, I’ll say it again, best book ever. It hits a little different now that I’m older than Montag, and pairs nicely with the above mentioned You Are Not Your Own.
4.
Like I mentioned in my email, I’m trying to like baseball. I don’t really know why, but I’m into it. Watching breakdowns of awesome plays like the one below makes me get into it even more. (explicit warning on the video)
5.
I read this article titled, “In Praise of the Boring, Uncool Church” by Brett McCracken. It’s definitely interesting, especially for my friends who work in churches.
6.
The Youtube algorithm served this video “Professor Goes To Prison (Full Version)” to me thinking I would like it. And it was right. The former AndOne streetball player has a Youtube channel and is doing some cool stuff. I subscribed.
7.
I listened to this really funny epsiode of the Nateland Podcast (they’re all funny).
8.
We read Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman for book club. It was challenging. I need to read it again, closer this time.
9.
One of my favorite Youtubers just started a 30 day fundraiser challenge where he’s trying to raise $100,000 to provide one million meals for people who need them, while trying to make it across the country with only one penny. It’s really funny, and he’s only on day 3 today. Check out the video below and join him on his journey (and donate!).

Wow, you subscribed to my emails, clicked a link, and scrolled to the bottom of the page? Thank you for caring. Here’s a photo of a bluejay I saw a few weeks ago (and a confirmation from a Missouri Master Naturalist).
