January-February 2024 Top Ten

1.

I reread The Will of the Many by James Islington for book club and loved it. I haven’t been this excited to read the next book in a new series in a long time. I also emailed the author and he emailed me back.

2.

I watched this new half-hour special called Signature Dish by comedian Aaron Weber and really enjoyed it. Funny stuff.

3.

My favorite band of all time, Mumford & Sons, announced a new album and released two songs, which are both absolute bangers.

4.

I read a short book called Permanent Vern by Tim DeMoss about remembering what needs to be remembered, but also forgetting what needs to be forgotten.

5.

We read the poetry book Helium by Rudy Fransisco for book club in February. His poems are super accessible if you’re trying to get in to poetry but don’t know where to start.

6.

I read The Wild Robot by Peter Brown and enjoyed it, but I agree with a lot of the 1-2 star reviews on Goodreads: it got unexpectedly violet at the end. Didn’t love that.

7.

I also finally finished The Baseball 100 by Joe Posnanski. He does a short profile on his top 100 players in baseball history. A great read during the offseason.

8.

We watched a few marble racing videos and tried to guess which marble would win. The snow days were long.

9.

My wife and I got the card game Play Nine (because the app cheats), which is pretty fun, even with just two people.

10.

I watched the dunk contest. Mac McClung is insane.
