December 2025 Top Ten

1.

My favorite band, Mumford and Sons, released the second single from their upcoming album Prizefighter, and it’s the title track, which is an awesome treat. I’m still trying to figure it out, but it’s lovely.

2.

Home Alone is my favorite Christmas movie, but last month we watched Home Alone 2. It’s good, but clearly a ripoff trying to recapture the magic of the original, which it falls short.

3.

I read The Strength of the Few by James Islington for book club and really enjoyed it. Especially one part, which I can’t mention because it’s a spoiler. Islington is doing some wild things.

4.

I read the graphic novel Wonder Woman: Dead Earth as something quick so I could hit my goal of 52 books in a year, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it. I’d say it’s easily in my top ten graphic novels of all time.

It’s a mix of post apocalyptic, which I enjoy, each panel is emotionally charged and perfectly executed, and the story has a great message (I typed more here, but don’t want to spoil it).

5.

My son is into making little stop motion videos, and we watched this fun and very creative one yesterday. It was a blast.

6.

Me and Sammi watched Jingle Bell Heist last month. I can’t say it was good, but it was fun and entertaining, and the filmmakers as least treated the audience like they’re smart, which goes a long way.

7.

I took my 7 year old son Milo to the theater to see the new David movie. He enjoyed it. I think I freaked him out a bit thinking it might be too scary at times, but overall he was into it.

I thought it was pretty good, but Prince of Egypt still reigns surpeme when it comes to biblical movies.

8.

I read My Bright Abyss by Christian Wiman. It’s his reflections during a long battle with a rare form of cancer. I appreciated it. Here’s one of the quotes I highlighted:

“Perhaps we are the weak ones, and God comes to us inwardly only because we have failed to perceive him in the crying child, in the nail driven cleanly into the wood, in the ordinary dawn sun that merely to see clearly is sufficient prayer and praise.”

9.

Watched this interview of 100 year of Dick Van Dyke, which was pretty surreal.

10.

I read Milo the graphic novel Darkwing Duck: F.O.W.L. Play. It was just okay. I was hoping Darkwing Duck would have at least some redeeming moments, but he really doesn’t. Darkwing’s ego is all lighthearted and ironic though, which I think my son picked up on. Overall fun read with a 7 year old.
