August 2022 Top Ten
1.
I read Rules for a Knight by Ethan Hawke and enjoyed it for the most part. I’ve grown to despise pithy one-liners (one reason I got off Twitter), and there’s a ton in here. But, I’m still planning on giving this as a Christmas gift this year. My full review.
2.
John Van Deusen released an EP with six songs that didn’t make it onto his latest album, and they’re phenomenal. “If I Get to Heaven” might be the best song about Heaven that I’ve ever heard.
3.
Me Like Bees released a single called “Radio” and its a jam and a heartbreaker.
4.
We read my friend’s book called The Scribbler Files. It’s a great first book in what looks to be a promising middle grade detective series.
5.
One of my favorite Youtubers, who did a daily vlog over the summer where he raised $1.4 million dollars for Feeding America, did an interview where he got very vulnerable about his faith. I was both surprised and encouraged.
6.
Spotify recommended the instrumental record “Out Walking” by Abby Gundersen and I’ve been really enjoying it.
7.
One of my favorite authors right now, O. Alan Noble, has a Substack and wrote a short post titled “Strawberry Shortcake and Technological Determinism”. It’s great.
8.
It took me awhile, but I finally finished Recovering the Lost Art of Reading by Leland Ryken and Glenda Mathes. I’ve got mixed thoughts on it, but if you’re on the fence on if reading books is important, I’d say give this one a shot. I had a lot of highlights. Here’s one:
We know God wants us to have literature in our lives because he has revealed himself to the human race in a book that is primarily literary in nature.
9.
I love the game GeoGuessr, and I watched this video of a guy guessing accurate locations in 0.1 seconds. It’s insane.
10.
One of Milo’s favorite movies is Wall-E. So, naturally, one of his favorite songs is from the title sequence. We listened to it a lot last month.
