March 2023 Top Ten

1.

I got an early release of Alan Noble’s new book On Getting Out of Bed and read it in one night. I loved it. Timely for me and extremely helpful. I’ve already gifted it to two people and it doesn’t come out until April 18. My full review here.

2.

This song has been a jam lately (also, related to the book above).

3.

A teenager at my church is raising money for a trip, and is taking commissions, so I asked her to paint her version of The Monk by the Sea by Caspar David Friedrich and she nailed it. I love her version, and especially the contrast to Friedrich’s. Hers seems more hopeful. I love it.

4.

I read the short book How Do Humans Flourish by Danielle Sallade and really enjoyed it.

5.

Watched most of the tournament games of the World Baseball Classic and loved it. The final was incredible.

6.

This Mark Rober drone video made me feel like I’m living in the future.

7.

One of my favorite musicians, John Van Deusen, started a new band called Telephone Friends. They released another single and it’s hilarious and awesome.

8.

I read The Business of Being a Writer and am already putting some of the ideas into practice. It’s the most thorough and up to date book about the business of writing that I’ve ever read.

9.

I listened to stand up comedian Mike Vecchione’s new special. Not my favorite, but he’s real funny and clever.

10.

BibleProject released this new video on a Psalm that is near and dear to me and it’s great.
