April 2024 Top Ten

1.

We read Supernatural by Dr. Michael Heiser for book club. We had a good conversation, but agreed some things could have been handled differently. If you’re interested in this, I recommend reading it with Heiser’s other book, The Unseen Realm.

2.

I watched this awesome version of Wild Mountain Thyme with a full orchestra.

3.

I read The House of Owls by Toney Angell and enjoyed it. All these really niche books are research for a project that’s in the early stages.

4.

In tandem with The House of Owls, I also read One Wild Bird at a Time by Bernd Heinrich. Very, very specific audience, but I enjoyed it.

5.

Me and Sammi went to the Royals/Orioles game and got to see Jackson Holliday. I even got a photo with him (you’ve got to really zoom in to see him, ha!).

6.

On our way to the Royals game, we listened to the entire two hour, 31 song Taylor Swift album. I can’t really say I’ll be listening to it again. I did appreciate this particularly self-aware line when she said, “Why does everything come out teenage petulance?”

7.

I read the little novella Foster by Claire Keegan and really enjoyed it. I need to read it again.

8.

I finally finished Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer and thought it was super helpful. It’s the best book I’ve found on crafting a Rule of Life.

9.

On our way home, we listened to Maggie Rogers’ new album. It’s less than 40 minutes, much more fun, but ultimately the title track “Don’t Forget Me” was the only one that stood out to me on the first listen.

10.

I found a 1949 edition of one of my favorite books Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis. And, I picked up this 1967 edition of Amazing Magazine that contains a Ray Bradbury short story.
